Academic Task 1

The two bar charts show the numbers of graduate and post-graduate who went into part-time, third sector, further study, or unemployment on finishing college in 2008.

The most frequent outcome for graduates not going into full-time work was further study, with just over half of this number taking up part-time work or entering unemployment in 2008. Voluntary work was the least favoured option with only 3500 graduates selecting this in comparison to over 10,000 individuals in the other categories.

Post-graduates, while lower in number, showed similar distributions for voluntary work, further study, and unemployment. Part-time employment figures for post-graduates were much greater than for graduates, sharing an almost equal number with further study.

Overall, the trends for both classes of students leaving college were similar for the year in question, though postgraduates favoured part-time work more than graduates. Third sector work and unemployment rates for both were consistent while most opted to continue studying.
